1) times square is ok now. no worries there. don't do drag there, tho; transwomen have been killed in NYC for being themselves (one right in times square by a taxi driver, while other taxi drivers watched and laughed).

2) don't buy any recreational substances unless you personally know the seller. it's rip-off city, and who ya gonna call?

3) go for cheap boutique hotels, if you need them. all the majors are $$$.

4) the subway is relatively safe, but *make sure you know where you are going*. real easy to wind up in BedSty, and then you're TOAST. double check the rail plan with an agent.

5) don't go above 95th st. without accompaniment.

6) of course the Village is faboo, but beware of street hustlers.
