FILM PROJECT SUMMARY

“Faerie” is a documentary film by San Francisco-based Marrvelous Films that seeks to illuminate the historical leadership and spiritual significance of the queer embodiment. By revisiting the contributions and gifts that have been imbued to mankind by socially eccentric thinkers and leaders such as Da Vinci and Socrates, “Faerie” aims to give meaningful context to the role and service of the these people—and shed light on the present day injustices and obstacles modern-day Faeries endure.

“I want people to understand that "Faerie" is a project about human rights and the spiritual and cultural significance of having a unique presence in life,” says David Marr, producer and director of the film and owner of Marrvelous Films. “I expect the film to be a learning tool and hope it initiates changes in the way society embraces the queer incarnation and function in life.”

Faeries are commonly thought of as good natured and human-like in appearance but their actions represent a unique perspective from that of the common folk. Frequently, they supplant the mundane routine found in everyday life. Some say they possess a vision of what is possible beyond the mere satisfaction of our existence.

They are Socrates, Plato and Aristotle; they lay the foundations of civilization and society itself. They are Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Warhol; they define the meaning of art and beauty. They are Alexander, Caesar and kings or queens; those who first united the broken tribes of man. Beyond the ability of procreation they possess the unique new thought or act of creation itself, the very element needed to redefine culture in our minds and lives.

(BEGINNERS WELCOME!!!)

WHERE: K-1 Fitness, 2001 Van Ness Ave (at Jackson), San Francisco
WHEN: August 1st (THIS Wednesday!) at 7:00pm
PRICE: $20 for non-members, FREE to members of K1-Fitness

Professora Jessi Taran, (2 time winner of the US Open in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), 1st place winner of the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic in BOTH Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as submission wrestling, and currently ranked by grapplers.com as the number 1, female BJJ heavyweight in the world) will be teaching an introductory BJJ/submission wresting seminar this coming Wednesday night, at K-1 fitness in San Francisco at 7:00 pm. For almost ten years, Taran has studied under and trained with some of the most well-respected BJJ fighters in the world today, including Ralph Gracie, Renzo Gracie, David Camarillo, Ricardo de la Riva, and Sergio Silva. She is one of only FIVE American women to have ever achieved the rank of Black Belt in the art of BJJ. She also holds a Master's degree in philosophy from the Katholiek Universitat Leuven, in Belgium. She wrote her thesis on 'The Role of Courage in Women's Moral Action'.

Often referred to as 'the world's most practical martial art', Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is grappling based, combative art. Primarily focused on the 'ground game', in recent years, BJJ has won substantial notoriety due to it's unparalleled success in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) venues such as the UFC. Like Judo (which shares a common history), no strikes or kicks are used in Jiu Jitsu. The object of a BJJ match is to achieve a dominant position and immobilize your opponent. This is done by trapping the other person in a submission hold, (usually a joint lock or a carotid artery choke) and applying just enough pressure in order to get him to 'tap out' or verbally submit.

Because of the enormous popularity of televised fight shows such as the UFC and IFL, many people think that BJJ and MMA are the same thing, or that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu's primary importance is it's functionality in winning MMA fights. While it's true that the study of BJJ is an integral element of any MMA fighter's education, it's important to remember that BJJ and MMA are NOT the same thing. Despite it's practicality and proven combat effectiveness, a BJJ match is NOT 'a fight' - it's a GAME, an ART, and a SCIENCE. Only when the art is viewed as a whole, and not just as a means to an end (i.e. : cool submission holds for MMA fights... ) can the beauty, complexity, and subtle, non-verbal, truths that lie at the heart of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, be fully understood and appreciated .

Professora Taran is the co-founder of the Open Door Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Oakland, California, where she has been teaching for the past four years. She currently teaches at both the Open Door Academy in Oakland, and also at World Jiu Jitsu in Marin. Taran's stated goal is to make the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu accessible to ANYONE who wants to train, regardless of age, fitness level, gender, or sexual orientation. According to Taran, 'Most BJJ instructors focus the majority of their energy on those students they think have the best chance at becoming tournament champions. Personally, I feel that if a student really wants to compete, that's fine. But if he doesn't want to compete...well...that's fine too! You do learn something from competing in tournaments, but honestly, I really don't see the karmic value of taking a bunch of really tough, athletic, guys, and turning them into really, REALLY tough, athletic, guys. Where's the challenge in THAT, you know? I myself am much more interested in taking regular people of average, or even sub-standard, athletic ability, and giving them something that they never had before, or even knew existed. Now THAT means something! I love seeing how people's lives change when they don't have to worry about feeling afraid anymore. You don't need to be 'tough' in order to be successful at Jiu Jitsu. That's the whole POINT. That's why it's so amazing!'

Aside from her many accomplishments, both as a competitor as well as an instructor, (Taran's students have placed in multiple high level BJJ and submission wrestling tournaments, including the US Open and the Pan American Games) what truly sets the Professora apart from other BJJ instructors, is her precise attention to technical detail, and her 'philosophy of control'. Says Taran, 'Despite popular misconceptions about the art, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is really NOT about injuring or hurting one's opponent; it's about controlling him. We know this because it's the ONLY martial art in which you can spar FULL FORCE, without necessarily getting injured or injuring your opponent. Of course, like any sport, injuries can happen sometimes, but only accidentally. You certainly aren't trying to hurt anyone! As a matter of fact, I believe that if you DO hurt the person you're rolling with, it's same as a loss. This is because both results are ultimately rooted in the same cause - a loss of control. In order to be able to physically control another person stronger or larger than yourself, you must first learn control of your own body. '

Professora Taran will be teaching at K-1 Fitness on a regular basis starting the second week of August.

Pink Saturday, 2007 Call for Volunteers

PINK SATURDAY - Saturday June 23rd: 7PM - Midnight " We Are All Pink On The Inside"

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc. hereby put forth the call to our community for those inspirited and steadfast friends of the Order who are looking to start their PRIDE festivities with some good old fashion service work and partner with us as our gatekeepers for that highest and holiest of Queer days - Pink Saturday 2007!

That's right, it's time to grab that cape! For a simple 3 hour shift (a 4 hour total commitment), you will receive free food & drinks/ cocktails at the legendary Sister's Pink Room at HQ, where you can mix and mingle with other non-profit superstars and Sisters upon the successful completion of your shift as well as receive a Pink Saturday T-shirt, which you can wear as a badge of courage and a symbol of your service-work prowess!

All donations go back to our partnering non-profits who's volunteers will be working right along side you - can we say "excellent dating pool", and go to supplement the Sister's Grant Fund, www.thesisters.org/grants

This Year's Shifts:

EARLY SHIFT: The Medium Rare: A Little Pink in the Middle Shift
7-10pm (mandatory check-in at HQ at 6pm for training and refreshments)

LATE SHIFT: The Rare'n To Go: Pink Through and Through Shift
9-Midnight (mandatory check-in at HQ at 8pm for training and refreshments)

Regardless of which shift rubs you the right way, the Sisters extend to you a most indulgent, joyful (and guilt free) welcome to this evening of fundraising, frolic, and freedom! Come mix with other diverse, spirited, (and often flirtatious) volunteers - edify your whole-self through service, food & drink, and tchotckes - and meet and play along side the Sisters!

This year the Sisters are literally on the bleeding edge of technology and all volunteer registration for Pink Saturday will be handled online. There are two simple steps to the process, registration and signing up for an "event". Registration is basically creating your personal profile and entering your JOIN CODE (below). Signing up for an event is basically selecting which shift (Early or Late) for Pink Saturday that you'd like to work. Specific gate or task assignments will be given to you upon check-in for your shift at Pink Saturday Headquarter on June 23. For your convenience, there are two versions of the registration instructions on our site, the Long and Short Versions. Please read the version that works best for you before you begin and follow these instructions, especially about how to enter your JOIN CODE.

Shift selection is on a "first come" basis and we will try our best to honor your special requests for specific gate assignments, but please understand that we may need to place volunteers at another gate as supply and demand dictate on the night of the event. If you need to cancel your participation in Pink Saturday, return to this web site no later than one week before the event, June 16, 2007, to cancel.

CLICK THIS LINK: www.thesisters.org/ps/

JOIN CODE = RINGER

During your initial registration, type in the join code (in all caps) and hit the JOIN button. Once the message appears below saying you have been successfully joined to the group, then you should hit the SAVE AND CONTINUE button.

If you have questions about how to register or sign up, email Sister Bella de Ball at sisterbella@gmail.com.

- WE ARE ALL PINK ON THE INSIDE!

(This has been a PSA by your Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Pink Saturday Recruitment Committee - exercising their desire for community-building and world domination for longer than you might think)

The world is coming alive with green shoots and animals seeking mates. Ostara is one of the Lesser Sabbats, usually celebrated anywhere from March 19th to 21st. Some celebrated on the fixed date of March 25 (Lady Day), while others celebrate on the next full moon (a time of increased births). While the equinox is a solar holiday, Eostre is a lunar goddess. This may be viewed as symbolic of the goddess (the moon) and the god (the sun) coming together in completion. Other names by which this Sabbat may be known are Oestara, Esther, Eostre's Day, the Rite of Eostre or Rites of Spring, Alban Eilir, Festival of the Trees, and the Bacchanalia. The Christian holiday of Easter is determined as the first Sunday after the first Full Moon after the Vernal Equinox.

According to the Venerable Bede (673-735), the Anglo-Saxons called the fourth month "Esturmonath" for the goddess Eostra. Her festival became the celebration of Christ's resurrection when Anglo-Saxon and German peoples were converted to Christianity. While English and German Christians still attach the name of Eostra to their most sacred holiday (Easter or Ostern), other European languages base the name on the Hebrew word "pasah," to pass over, reflecting the Christian holiday's Biblical connection with the Jewish Passover.

All cultures living in temperate climates celebrate the coming of spring with rituals and festivals. This was one of the most important of spring festivals among pre-Christian Germanic tribes, dedicated to the goddess Ostara, a goddess associated with the "east" and thus "dawn" and "morning light." Ostara is a time to celebrate the renewal and rebirth of Nature herself, and the coming Summer. Light and darkness are in balance, as are masculine and feminine energy, yin and yang. Ostara is a fertility festival celebrating the rebirth of the God and the awakening of life from the Earth. Some Wiccan traditions worship the Green Goddess and the Lord of the Greenwood.

The Spring-cleaning tradition derived from the old witches who engaged in a cleansing each spring followed by setting up a hedge of protection. All motions involving scrubbing of stains or hand rubbing the floors should be done "clockwise." This custom aids in filling the home with good energy for growth. Another Spring tradition for ancient pagans and magicians was to dig a small trench around the outer perimeter of their home. At each quarter they would bury an egg. A modern practitioner might also add iron, old rusty nails, metal keys, old razor blades, pins and needles or witch bottles filled with the above items to diffuse magical attacks and spiritual negativity. (If you are unable to dig a perimeter, you can improvise by placing iron keys above your door, and pentacles and sigils drawn on pewter or parchment paper under your carpet or floorboards.

As a time of cleansing and renewal, Ostara is an excellent time to begin some new project. It is an excellent month for prosperity rituals or rituals that have anything to do with growth. Spells for improving communications, fertility, and abundance are especially strong at this time. Some Pagan customs include ringing bells and lighting new fires at dawn for cures, renewed life, and protection of the crops. A common belief in nineteenth century Germany touted the curative properties of water drawn early on Easter morning. One nearly universal craft is decorating hard-boiled eggs.

Eggs have long been a symbol of rebirth. They have been found among the grave goods of Anglo-Saxons, within the tombs of the Egyptians, and were placed on the fresh graves of the deceased Greeks. In ancient time, eggs were gathered for use in the creation of talismans and ritually eaten. The gathering of different colored eggs from the nests of a variety of birds has given rise to two traditions still observed today, the Easter egg hunt and coloring eggs in imitation of the various pastel colors of wild birds. Some believed that humankind was inspired by watching birds weave nests to begin weaving the first baskets. This is perhaps the origin of the association between colored Easter eggs and Easter baskets.

The custom of coloring eggs seems to be limited to the Germanic countries, Slavic countries, and America. In Scotland and Ireland, the custom is virtually unknown. Each spring in Germany, bakery windows are filled with elaborately painted eggs. Eggs are also hung from flowering branches to make "egg trees." Easter is celebrated in Germany more enthusiastically than it is anywhere else in the world with decorations up a good month before the festival. There are parties, egg hunts, and other celebrations weeks in advance of Easter itself.

In many places, it is traditional to keep Easter eggs or shells all year to ward the family and cattle against harm. They are also used specifically as a charm against hail and lightning. For this reason, great care and thought goes into the creation of egg decorations, egg-trees, boiled and decorated eggs for eating, and hare cakes.

Eostre is a goddess of the moon, an ancient measurer of time. The lunar month of 28 days gives us thirteen periods in 364 days, equivalent to the solar year. The hare, though viewed as a symbol of fertility, is also a symbol of the moon. Ixchel, the Mayan Goddess of the moon, midwifery and weaving, has a rabbit totem. Mexican panels of 600-900 AD show her giving birth to and suckling a rabbit, and another shows the rabbit representing phases of the moon.

The Egyptians called the hare Un, which means open, to open, and the opener. The month of April, the first month of the spring season, comes from the Latin “to open.” Un also means period of time. The hare as "opener" symbolizes the New Year at Easter, and fertility and the beginning of new life within the young. Since the hare can sleep with its eyes open, the Romans equated it with vigilance and believed that rabbits watched over everything. According to one story, Buddha placed the rabbit in the moon after it voluntarily gave itself as food for one of Buddha's hungry friends. In another, a rabbit jumped into a fire to feed a hungry Indra and out of gratitude, Indra placed the rabbit in the moon. Rabbits were significant totem animals however and eating them was prohibited in Britain and Egypt. A Scottish superstition suggested that eating rabbit was equivalent to eating one's grandmother.

In Asian myth, rabbits and the moon are virtually identical. The Rabbit in the Moon sweeps its surface clean with bound horsetails according to Japanese stories. The rabbit pounds rice into flour, making mochi which means both rice flour and full moon. The Sanskrit word, cacadharas also means both moon, and "that which carries the hare."

Rabbits also represent immortality and vitality. Pliny the Elder stated that rabbit meat enhanced one's beauty and radiance for a week afterwards, and Chinese myth believed rabbit meat was essential for vitality. According to Chinese myth, the rabbit is a symbol of longevity. Its fur turns white at age 100 and blue at 500. In Eastern Asian myth, rabbits created an elixir of immortality. The Algonquin trickster rabbit, Manabozho, is thought to embody all life-giving energy.

In Greece, live rabbits were popular love gifts, indicating sexual intentions. European wedded couples in the Middle Ages exchanged rabbit-shaped rings. Rabbit's popularity as a sex charm or fertility totem is related to its' natural cycle. A rabbit's gestation period is approximately one month, and it tends to be the first animal to give birth in the springtime, continuing to have litters of kits during the year. In Asian folklore, a rabbit may become pregnant simply by staring at a full moon, licking a male rabbit's fur under a full moon, or running across a moon-lit water's surface.

Continuing their mission to promulgate Universal Joy, the San
Francisco Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc. are proud to announce
"Perpetual Indulgence" in the Park, an Easter picnic and celebration.
This very San Francisco event brings together children, families,
friends, artists and community activists all on one lawn to celebrate
the Sisters' 27th Anniversary and enjoy a day in Dolores Park. This
event is free to the public.

"Perpetual Indulgence" in the Park promises to be lively and vivacious
incorporating stage performances, children's activities. Sister
Sharin' Dipity, recalling her entrance to the Children's Easter
festivities last year had this to say: "I stepped out of the car and
immediately planted my 6'' heals, 6" deep into the soft morning grass
of Dolores Park. Obviously delighted, I looked up and my gaze was met
by literally dozens and dozens of expecting children. I turned to the
Easter Bunny and politely stated, "$%#!, we need more eggs!"

We will begin welcoming families at 11:00 A.M. with an Easter egg hunt
to begin around 11:15. We will have games and a variety of activities
from 11:45 until roughly 12:30 P.M. The Easter Bunny will be there to
play with the kids as well as Sisters. All activities are free of
charge with donations gladly accepted.

Sister MaryMae, this year's chair of "Perpetual Indulgence" in the
Park, says "We have all of the old favorites, the Hunky Jesus Contest,
the Bonnet Contest, Grants Giveaways and Saintings, but we are
planning a lot of surprises and fun new tricks."

At 1 P.M., participants will line up to parade across the stage in
their Easter finest for our Bonnet Contest. Emcees, Sister Roma and
Sister Dana Van Iquity, will be on the platform as usual, judging and
dishing the bonnets like Joan and Melissa Rivers: "Who are you
wearing, and WHAT were you thinking!" Later, at 3:15 P.M., this year's
Hunky Jesus will be chosen. Both winners will receive a $100 cash
prize.

In addition to providing an afternoon of merriment, the Sisters also
hope to raise money for a whole year of grants awards.
Compton’s Cafeteria Riots Commemoration Kick-Off

A Commemoration of the 40th Year Anniversary of the Compton Cafeteria Riots will be celebrated throughout the Bay Area in 2006. Three years before the famous rioting at New York’s Stonewall Inn, a group of transgender women and gay street-hustlers fought back for the first time in history against everyday police harassment. This was known as the Riot at Gene Compton’s Cafeteria in the Tenderloin in San Francisco.

A chronicle of this historic time in 1966 marks one beginning of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) movement resistance. It has been captured in a documentary made by Susan Stryker and Victor Silverman, entitled ‘Screaming Queens’.

Please come support this kick-off event of Compton’s Cafeteria 40th Anniversary activities. It will include a showing of ‘Screaming Queens’. Come learn about this important time in LGBT history, and meet community leaders who are working to showcase this series of events and activities.

Date: March 23, 2006

The Sisters have been a huge part of the gay men's health movement over decades. I would love it if any sisters would consider joining a gay men's health leadership academy that I will cofacilitate with Eric Rofes and Kevin Trimell Jones. The first training is in March, 2006 in Guerneville, the second is in September, 2006 in Easton Mountain, New York. Details are below. You can download the brochure (if you are interested) from Eric Rofes' website noted below. Please feel free to email me (bartlett.cd@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

Intensive Training Offered in March 2006 focused on Gay Men's Health
Leadership

We are seeking people who would like to participate in a three-day

After three years of organizing one-day trainings, the organizers of
behind their work promoting gay men's health

o Create a cohort of leaders throughout the nation who will assist
one another tackling tough challenges in their local communties

o Share information about the development of the gay men's health
movement internationally

policy issues, and producing programs that truly promote community
health and wellness

We have designed a rigorous three-day academy at a beautiful retreat
outside Guerneville, California. The fee for the training, including
all meals and accommodations is $500. We are eager to invite people
to participate in the training, which is limited to 40 participants.

Since I believe that this is OUR tribe, and not MY tribe. I am asking what you want me to do in regards to the below message I recieved.

We wanted to drop a note to everybody who currently moderates a “Mature” tribe, because of these important changes coming up on December 20th:

1) We’re implementing Community Flagging. To ensure that all posts are respectful, and to respond to concerns from our users about some of the content on the site being offensive, we’re going to allow members to flag content (photos and listings) for removal. In our judgment, it’s likely that at least some of the photos in the Mature tribe(s) you currently moderate will be flagged for removal by other tribe.net members.

2) We’re updating our Terms of Use (“TOU”). This update is to reflect changes in the legal environment facing us and our members. In particular, posting content that portrays obscenity, pornography, or sexually explicit conduct is for practical purposes illegal for members like ours under U.S. federal law. So it will be prohibited in our TOU, and we will drop the “Mature” designation from your tribe and sitewide.

3) If your tribe currently has “public” status, we’ll be switching it to “private” status on 12/20. This means that only invited members will be able to see any content in it, and any links to content inside the tribe will only work if the user is already a member of your tribe. It also means your tribe will not appear in search results. We’re making the switch for you to give you time to remove all the content that’s in violation of the new TOU. (As a moderator, you will always have the option down the road of switching the status back to public).

What to do now: we suggest you remove all photos that you think are likely to be considered in violation of the new TOU. When you’re done with that, and only then, go to the Manage Tribe page and change the Mature category for your tribe from Mature to whatever seems most appropriate. Doing this now may save you a lot of work down the road, but it is only an option to you before 12/20.

Tribe will always depend on great moderators for remaining a great service, and so we’re grateful for your help as we all go through these changes. If you have questions, we’ll be discussing this online at moderators.tribe.net and tribeideas.tribe.net

Thanks,

Wade Lagrone
VP Marketing, Tribe.net
www.tribe.net/template/pub%2CAbout.vm

P.S. If you have so many photos to remove that it’s a big chore, let us know and we’ll figure out a way to help.

I wanted to share a little something that touched me very, very deeply. Last night, at Spin THIS! ( a monthly event I help run), I booked one of my friends, Nol, to perform. He is a ballerina and dressed in drag, wearing a wedding dress. His boyfriend came up to me and asked me how perfect would it be/not be for him to propose to Nol on stage- the fact that Nol was in the gown, cute girls dressed as fairies also performing, being at Nol's favorite club (a very eclectic crowd that comes together in harmony), the fact they have been "talking about it", the fact he brought a ring for such a purpose etc.... And if I thought it was perfect, could I help arrange it?
Well, DUH! Of course! Aside from being incredibly flattered that someone considered the event the "perfect place", I try to do anything within my power to make dreams come true for people I care about. I drag him to
Phreaki Boi/ Murias (my lifetime partner in crime and one of the main promoters) and passed on the request. We arranged timing and cues. I was asked by the groom if I could have the fairies on the stage at the same time. Of course, they were game! They got on stage and started dancing. I go up to Nol and ask him if he could go up and dance with them. Oberon gently nudged, "yeah! Go up and dance with fairies! That would be awesome!".
They dance and play and the music stops at the end of the song. Nol is clueless as to what is about to happen. Oberon waltzes on stage and starts talking like he was one of the promoters thanking everyone for coming out, introducing the performers, etc. He mentions Nol is his boyfriend and soulmate. He gets down on one knee and pops the big question. Nol, while being completely surprised, says yes! They kiss and the crowd goes wild!!!!! Cheers and shouts of congrats, tears of happiness and amazement. It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I was so happy to see two men announcing their love and goal to spend the rest of their life together was so accepted by the mixed crowd. It was so perfect and very precious. People should not be afraid to show their love to the world, regardless of orientation. LOVE should be celebrated! I could not stop crying. I was a happy, mushy wreak. And when the bride and I hugged after, it was all over! Our tears were not the only ones. A lot of folks were moved. I even woke up crying tears of happiness from witnessing such a beautiful moment between 2 people. Hell, I'm even crying now as I write this! I am so eager for the day where it is socially (and legally) accepted everywhere for EVERYONE to marry the love of their life! I hope to see it my lifetime.

I am writing becasue I find myself in a sad state of mind. My hubby of 11 years has told me he no longer wants a physical relationship with me becasue of what AIDS has done to my body and how it has affected the way he sees me. He tells me he wants us to stay together and to keep the rest of our relationship intact BUT no physical contact. It makes me cry to think of being with him but not being able to kiss his cheek or touch his hand even.

My hubby is a wonderful man whom I love with all my heart. But I don't know that I can exist inside of a passionless relationship. I don't really have anyone I feel I can talk to about this. I am hoping somenun might have some experience withthis sort of situation who might be willing to talk me through some issues.
It's a 9pm event and is all about providing a safe space for those who are living with/dealing with crystal meth issues. A non-preachy space, but not a 12-step kinda environment either. Just a club.

I performed at Tina's Cafe about a year ago and loved it. So, I wanted to emcee one where I mixed together some local drag queens with some SISTERS! Yep, a night when drag queens and nuns can come together for FUN.

I've enlisted Miz Syphillis Diller to perform that night and will be asking a few other local queens. But, I wanted to first see if any of y'all sisters would want to do a number?

Oh ... and NvSra Iona, who will be participating, already got me to get the pertinent 411 on basics:
a. the room is supposed to only seat 50, but it can hold way more than that.
b. there is NO cover charge. no $ to deal with. no raffle tickets to deal with.

David Smith (ex-hsmate of Dennis Peron) has been doing a great deal of smoozing connections -- just got Tom Ammaino to call Kamala Harris. He spoke to Mark Leno tues eve at Trannyshack, too. I also was there. (what a great show it was!) My lawyer is Jim Hammer, who is the best connected & sane person to deal with type case. Friend, Erich P lent him to me initially , but now I have to pay. Told him I would use him, unless we went to trial then I would obtain a public defender. ($$$).

~~~~My BEST position is to "make" them drop the case via public pressure!~~~~~~~~
PLEASE call Kamela Harris's office 415.553.1752 before 10/9 friday 9am*. I need as many calls as possible everyday. Identify yourself as a San Francisco resident.
Pass This On! Email everywhere! Thanks!
You are calling about case # 2235854 Tracey Howell. Demand, as a voter/citizen of S.F., to know why taxpayer's money is being wasted on this case. This is not the position you expected when you voted for her. You are dissapointed that this would even happen in San Francisco. Tracey has no previous record whatsoever. As a yoga teacher & community supporter she is a healthy addition to S.F., not a crimminal to be charged & prosecuted. Drop this case!
* My court date is next Friday october 7th at 9am. Not sure if supporters there would be helpful or not -- but if you're able -- let me know and I will get back to you.
Happy post-Folsom. I wanted to quickly remind everyone of the Sisters Flickr group that wonderful Brother Bimbo from Edinburgh set up earlier this year. Flickr is a free online photo service (pay accounts are available) that allows you to upload and share your photos in a neat & very community-focused way.
To view the Sister Pix group, visit: http://flickr.com/groups/sisterpix . You can upload photos to your own account and then send them to the SisterPix group. Pour example, I've added a couple of my photos from Folsom to the Flickr group. When you click on the individual photo from the group, it will take you to my full set ( http://tinyurl.com/ckfx7 ). This will hopefully be a bit of an easier and more permanent way to manage our fun photos from Folsom (& beyond). When you upload your photos, you have the option of assigning Tags. Some suggested tags include: sistersofperpetualindulgence, folsomstreetfair, nuns, mopi
You can see all photos tagged as "Folsom Street Fair" by clicking here: http://tinyurl.com/c7f7d
You need to have a Flickr or Yahoo! account to add photos. Flickr is good with anti-spam.
I'm currently at my folks' house in Glen Ellyn, IL.
Already, his office continues to repeat his earlier campaign line that he feels this is a decision that should be made by the people (in a ballot iniative) or by the courts (waiting for the ruling on the SF marriages last year) and it's likely he will NOT sign the bill into law.
Sisters, today and every day until a decision is made, I urge each of us to email , fax, and phone the Governor's office (leaving messages) in support of the legislation. Consider it part of a "daily practice for justice" and help turn the tide in favour of equality for all!
A simple tag line for any message could be:
"Governor Schwarzenegger, I urge you as a voter and a citizen of California to do the right thing and sign AB 49 into law recognizing that all Californians have equal rights and that no one should be discriminated against when it comes to marriage and family rights."
Please feel free to share this email with anyone you know who can help us!
To contact his office: (messages are fine as they are recorded and tallied)
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814
Phone: 916-445-2841
Fax: 916-445-4633
Email: http://www.govmail.ca.gov/ (and fill out the fields required)
San Francisco - In the wake of levees breaking causing French Quarter flooding on August 30, it became obvious that the annual Southern Decadence celebration slated for Labor Day weekend there would be canceled. Hurricane Katrina has wreaked havoc on the Gulf Coast with 80% of New Orleans under water, but the spirit of San Francisco's Mardi Gras club, Krewe de Kinque, would not be dampened.
Several of its members had flights to New Orleans but instead will be hosting a relief benefit on Labor Day, Mon. Sept. 5, from 3-7pm at The Edge bar in the Castro. "Western Decadence" will feature an optional $8 Beer/Soda Bust, barbecue, entertainment and raffle. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund (tax exempt).
Krewe Member Stephen Rowell is a native of New Orleans and said, "My family and most all of my relatives have no home to go back to. No homes, no jobs, and hardly any hope. We need to do something."
The Red Cross is launching the largest mobilization of resources for a single natural domestic disaster, in part because the extent of the damage is so widespread over a large geographical area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is sending nearly 1,900 staff and volunteers into the field in the next few days, and sending out more than 250 Emergency Response Vehicles to provide food and water to affected residents.
Krewe Member Deana Dawn was upbeat in saying, "Everyone we've approached has emphatically said 'YES! How can I help?' so we're assembling a huge show and raffle."
Krewe Members will be accepting donations at the corner of 18th and Collingwood streets and checks can be made payable to American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Donations may also be mailed to Krewe de Kinque at 156 Hancock Street, #4, SF CA 94114 and will be forwarded to the Red Cross.
Or you can donate online with a credit card at www.redcross.org or call 1-800-HELP-NOW (1-800-435-7669).
To volunteer or donate prizes, call Gary Virginia at (415) 626-5004.
The Edge is located at 4149 18th St., SF CA 94114.
